Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Namaste Community (“we”, “us”) collects through our mobile app and website (https://web.159-69-252-184.sslip.io), why we collect it, and the choices you have. By using Namaste Community, you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
Account & profile. Email address or phone number (or your Google/Apple account if you sign in that way), password, display name, profile photo, and your location — either a city you select or your device’s GPS position — so we can show you what’s happening near you. You may also choose a pseudonym to post and message anonymously; we still associate that pseudonym with your account internally so we can enforce our community guidelines.
Location precision. We use the precise coordinates you give us on our own servers, to work out how far things are from you. The coordinates we send to other members’ devices for anything you post are rounded to roughly a kilometre, and maps in the app draw an approximate area rather than an exact point.
Phone verification. If you verify your phone number, we send a one-time code to it for that purpose only.
Content you create. Questions and answers, poll votes, marketplace and directory listings, event listings, reviews, direct messages you send other members, and the messages, photos and poll votes you post inside a group.
Photos you upload. A photo you add to a listing, event, item, review, group or your profile is shown to other people on the surface you added it to, and anyone who can see that surface can see it. You are responsible for the photos you upload, including having the right to share them and the agreement of anyone recognisable in them; Namaste Community is not responsible for images members or businesses upload. To ask us to remove a photo of you, or one that is yours and was used without your permission, email hello@namaste.community with a link to where it appears — see “Photos and images, and copyright” in our Terms of Service.
Directory contact details. If you list a business, the phone/WhatsApp number, email, or website you provide is only shared with another user after they explicitly request it — we email it to them rather than displaying it publicly.
Free guides. When you ask for a free guide on our website we store your email address, the first name if you give one, which guide you asked for and where you came from (for example Instagram), and send you one email with the download link. We note when that link is first opened. We email you again only if you ticked the separate box to hear about new guides — we keep the words you agreed to with your tick — and every such email has a one-click unsubscribe. To have the record deleted, email hello@namaste.community.
Comments on our Instagram and Facebook posts. When you comment “namaste” on one of our free-guide posts, Meta tells us about the comment and we send you one private message with the guide’s link, and reply under your comment to say so. We do not store your username or what you wrote: we keep the comment’s id, which guide it was about, a one-way hash of your account id (so you get the link once, not every time you comment), whether the message went through, and when. To have that deleted, email hello@namaste.community.
Device & push notifications. A device token (from Apple or Google) so we can deliver push notifications for messages and updates, and, for web push, your browser’s push subscription details.
Usage & diagnostics. Crash reports and basic app diagnostics (via Firebase Crashlytics) so we can fix bugs, and coarse app-usage analytics.
Website analytics. Pages on our website use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and records page views, approximate location derived from your IP address, and basic device and browser details, so we can see which pages people find useful. This applies to the website only, not to the mobile app.
Advertising. The app includes Google AdMob, which may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads where ads are shown.
How we use your information
- Operate the app: show you relevant local content, deliver messages, and process listings, polls, and reviews.
- Send push and email notifications you’d expect from using the app (new messages, submission status, referral activity).
- Verify your phone number and keep the community safe (moderation, abuse prevention, enforcing our policies).
- Diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
- Where applicable, show and measure advertising.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Namaste Community, who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Google Firebase (push notifications, crash reporting), Google AdMob (advertising, where shown), Google Analytics (website traffic measurement) and Resend (transactional email). We do not share your personal information with anyone else except: another user you’ve chosen to contact or message, or where required by law.
Your choices
- Post anonymously using a pseudonym instead of your real name.
- Control which of your business contact details, if any, you list in the directory.
- Turn off push notifications in your device settings at any time.
- Request a copy of, or permanently delete, your account and data from within the app (Account → Delete Account), or by emailing us below.
Business listings added by members
Members can add a local business or service to the directory that is not their own. Such a listing holds the business’s name, category, town or address, opening hours, website and social links, and may hold the phone number, WhatsApp number and email address the business itself makes public (on its shop front, website, business card or social page). The member tells us where those details come from, and our team reviews every such listing before it is shown.
We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a useful community directory. These listings are marked “Added by the community” and carry a link to a page where anyone can ask us to correct them, and where the business can ask us to remove the listing or to hand it over. A business does not need an account for any of this, and can also write to us at the address below. We act on a removal request within three days; a removed business cannot be added again for 12 months.
We do not show who added a listing unless that member chose to be named.
Event tickets
When you book a ticket for an event on Namaste Community, the event’s organiser, and the managers they add to their team, see: the name typed on each ticket; if you booked as a member, your public name and, unless you have hidden your location (or post anonymously), your city and country from your profile; whether the order is paid; and when each ticket was checked in. Door staff see the name on each ticket. We tell you this at checkout. Organisers, managers and door staff never see your email address or phone number. Organisers also get counts of where their audience comes from, in which any group smaller than five people is folded into “Other”. Profiles hold no age, so none is shared.
If you book on the website without an account, the email address you give is used to send your tickets and messages about your booking (such as a reminder or a change to the event), and to add the booking to your account if you later sign up with that address. It is not shared with the organiser.
When you pay by bank transfer or at the door, you pay the organiser directly. Payment, refunds and disputes are between you and the organiser; Namaste Community does not hold the money. To pay by bank transfer we show you the organiser’s account details while your payment is due. If something goes wrong with an organiser, you can report it to us from your order page.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we need to retain limited records to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Children
Namaste Community is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above when we do.
